====== Workflow ====== Also called an "Outline", "Check List", and "Timeline". This is the **one stop shop** for viewing what's needed to be done (yeah right) :-). This page will give us a higher-level view of the activities that go into every Earn A Computer class. The timeline starts at the beginning of an Earn A Computer session. ====== Plan Classes ====== * Plan starting date for next class session. Starting date is usually three weeks after graduation class. We have 1 makeup class, with two non-class weeks after that, to reorganize the shop, and make any upgrades/changes to the classroom and future computers. * Coordinate with the shop, and ensure that enough computers will be available. * Ask shop if the potential start date will be OK, or if the shop needs a more than a couple of weeks until the next class. * Determine who will be available to teach. * Write down the class dates for the new class on the whiteboard in the classroom. * Put instructor names next to the classes that they are responsible for teaching. * Optionally, put the class schedule on the Yahoo Shop Calendar. * http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/bworks_shop/cal ====== Enroll Students ====== * Go through database and print call sheets * Split up call sheets between volunteers? Doesn't work that well, to be honest. * Determine what to do with students who dropped out or never attended. * Call parents, and verify that they'll attend. * In June/July 2008 class we had 6 or 7 students that dropped out after 1st class, or never attended. * Ensure that we have enough USB keys for upcoming class. * We try for $6-$7 USB keys. * Print Attendance Sheet -- It's in student database. * =) New -- Print name tags for students to put on their monitors. * Get the Email Signup Sheet from student database, and save it on the instructor machine, or print it. * This is a new procedure that is experimental 2008/08 * Instructor will ask each student what they'd like their username to be when they get their Byteworks email address. * This can be done preferably in the Intro to Computers class or the Internet Class * Create e-mail accounts for students! ====== First class (Intro to Computers) ====== * When kids come in, verify that names are spelled correctly. * Ensure that the permission slips are provided. If any parent/student does not have permission slips, see if you can have them fill one out immediately. Permission slips are in the front desk. * If no permission slips are available, check here: FIXME to print more out. * After class, correct any spellings in the student database. * We often have parents bring in extra kids. Any new kids need to be entered in the student database as well. * E-mail Addresses * Before games are played, request usernames from the students for the e-mail addresses. * We should have the spreadsheet or printout available on the instructor's machine from when we enrolled students. ====== Second Class (Internet) ====== * The best place to do this is after the first class ====== Third class (Open Office Writer) ====== * Check again w/shop to verify that enough computers will be ready. Give the shop an updated list of kids that will be getting computers, because students drop out. ====== Fourth class (Open Office Impress) ====== ====== Fifth class (Scratch Programming) ====== ====== Graduation Class ====== * Ensure that we have certificates printed * Ensure that we have E-mail addresses created * Mentorship Information printouts for students who are interested. * http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/bworks_staff/files/EducationProgram%20Committee/Mentorship%20Program/ ====== See Also ====== Workflows from previous classes: * 2007-07_youth_class * 2007-09_youth_class * 2007-11_youth_class * 2007-10_adult_class
