====== Photography Class ====== Patrick (from the Bicycle side) has expressed interest in starting a class to teach kids about digital photography and photo editing. Patrick has a possible source of funding to purchase enough digital cameras to start a class. Patrick has asked Dave Herholz to think about a curriculum for the class. Dave's proposed curriculum for the Photography class: == Class 1 == Lecture based. Talk about the basics of photography. Topics include history of photography, film vs. digital, F-stop, depth of field, shutter speed, etc. The students will be shown the lab cameras and parts of the camera will be explained. == Class 2 == Guided field trip. Students will be given an assignment sheet of pictures to take (macro, freeze motion, blur motion, clouds, nature, urban decay, etc.). This will take up the entire class. == Class 3 == Lab based. Students will download their pictures to the computer. GIMP (open source photo editing software) will be introduced and basic operations will be demonstrated (like photo rotating and cropping). == Class 4 == Lab based. Students will be given more instruction on GIMP, such as brightness/contrast adjust, sharpening, and basic layer operations. == Class 5 == Students will be given a Flickr account and upload their favorite pictures to Flickr. Students will be shown how to order prints of their photos. Another alternative is that we might solicit some free prints from a local company (like Kinkos). {{tag>photography workshop classes}}
