====== Ubuntu post-install for Hardy Heron ======

Guideline to install additional packages for Ubuntu multimedia computers and potentially EAC computers.

==== Multimedia ====
  * ubuntu-restricted-extras (flash, dvd playback, etc.)
    * for vlc, to enable the system to auto-start vlc when a DVD is inserted into the drive, follow the instructions  [[http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Hardy#How_to_make_VLC_open_when_you_insert_a_DVD|here]]
  * inkscape

  * frozen-bubble

Don't forget general updates!

===== Preparing off-line packages =====

  - Start from a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04.1
  - Launch Synaptic package manager
  - In Settings->Repositories, enable "universe" and "multiverse"
  - "Reload" to get up-to-date package lists
  - "Mark All Upgrades" to select needed updates
  - Select for installation all desired packages (like our list above)
  - Don't apply! Select File->"Generate package download script", save the script
  - We're done with Synaptic!
  - With a good net connection/lots of time, open a terminal and run the script

This script should get all the packages and dependencies necessary for what we've selected. Then on a destination machine with a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04.1, we should be able to bring the files over (by CD, USB key, network share, etc.), run Synaptic and select File->"Add downloaded packages" to install them.
