Sometimes, your computer will beep repeatedly, trying to warn you of problems. The beeping is especially prevalent when running multimedia applications like Scratch. This can be very annoying.
In Debian/Ubuntu, you can turn off the beeps by running:
xset b off
If you want to turn them on again, use this command:
xset b on
