Helicopter Rescue is a game written with the excellent Scratch programming tool from M.I.T.

Helicopter Rescue was the main project of the first student to participate in the Byteworks Mentorship Progam.

• Complete 1st level of helicopter rescue by mid-June of 2008

• Decide how the player will complete the 1st level.

On June 7th or 14th, Student 007 will present his project to the Byteworks Volunteers and Parents/Family

Answer the following current ideas, and work on them at home.

• A startup screen should be displayed, with instructions on how to play.
  • Perhaps little helicopter icons, etc. should show be on the screen.

• Currently, helicopter's blades don't move. We want to make our game more realistic. See scratch custom animation for clues

• When player presses “Space”, a bullet needs to fly out of the helicopter.
• If a bullet hits a plane, the plane should
  • Explode?
  • Fall to the ground?
• There should be an explosion sound!

• If the helicopter touches the planes, the helicopter will blow up
  • Anyone that was rescued by the helicopter should appear back on the ground
• Player will have two lives
• If player loses twice, game is over.

The sounds of a video game are almost as important as the game itself.

• When game starts, perhaps sirens should sound?
• Should helicopter have a continuous sound?

• Your program needs to know when the planes are gone, and all the people are picked up in the helicopter.

• If player rescued all the people and destroys the planes, we will display a smiley face (Congratulations!)
• If the player loses both of his helicopters, we'll display a “Try Again”, and frowney face.

We will put “Helicopter Rescue” on the Scratch website, so that kids from all over the world can play the game!
