ByteWorks Shop Volunteers Needed: Right now, the shop is open Saturdays from 10:00am - 3:00pm. With more people, we could add hours, open a few evenings during the week. Please come see us if you think you could do any of the following:
Computer Shop Technician - any or all of: sort through and triage incoming donations; collect donations of equipment and bring to the shop; take unusable equipment to be recycled; clone hard drives for resale and graduate machines; build graduate machines; build machines for resale; work on BWorks infrastructure, network, classroom machines, servers, other equipment as needed; work on computer repairs; help teach other volunteers; help with BWorks online presence (web site, wiki, FaceBook, volunteer listings, web store for resale of donated parts, etc.)
Computer Class Teacher - teach any or all of the six Saturday class sessions
Computer Class Aide - generally assist teacher; help keep students focused and on track; help with signing up students, class registration, phone calls to parents, etc.
Communications Aide - someone to listen to voice mail messages for BWorks, direct inquiries to the appropriate staff, return phone calls
“People Wrangler” - greet walk-ins, assist those buying computers or parts, process sales, direct queries to the appropriate staff, sign up attendees for classes, enlist others to volunteer, teach the public about who we are and what we do
Digital Photography Class Teacher - teach the not-yet-existing digital photography classes
Digital Photography Class Aide - generally assist teacher; help keep students focused and on track; help with signing up students, class registration, phone calls to parents, etc.
Shop Housekeeping - help keep the shop clean – sweep, vacuum, empty trash, help put things away that always seem to be left out, etc.
Web Store Manager - manage the not-yet-existing web store; take photographs of equipment, post listings online, manage sales or auctions, follow through on delivery or shipment
Mentor - everything one of the other volunteers does, but in addition, working with students or teen volunteers, to help them lear
